REVEALED: Guest Hollow’s NEXT Curriculum in Development

Homeschool Government and Economics Curriculum

POST edited to add: We’ve released Guest Hollow’s Government, Economics, and Personal Finance Curriculum! Check it out here!

Ever since we released Guest Hollow’s Whirlwind World History, we have been occasionally besieged by our wonderful customers who want to know what the NEXT curriculum will be. We decided to wait and make certain that things were going to fly BEFORE we made an announcement to let you all know what it was we ARE RIGHT NOW DEVELOPING. The last thing we wanted to do was to tell you we were going to develop something, get your hopes up, and then drop the project for whatever reason. So it looks like this one is going to work! 🙂

It’s got a free online textbook!

We have already created the online textbook for half of it and selected the spine books for the other half. We have gone through a LOT of books, and we are now confident that we will be able to find high quality ancillary books that we can create a proper Guest Hollow curriculum.

Another important step is self-examination. We wanted to make sure that we have it within ourselves to create this curriculum and have it do justice to the subject and be without bias inasmuch as we possibly can while remaining true to the subjects it will cover. We also have passed that test. So today, on Independence Day, July 4th 2022, it gives me great pleasure to reveal that we are creating: Guest Hollow’s Government, Economics, and Personal Finance Curriculum!

Guest Hollow’s Government, Economics, and Personal Finance will be an amazing and very robust course designed specifically for high school level homeschoolers. It obviously will encompass three distinct, but inseparable subjects and do so in a way that is not only approachable and fun, but one that is definitely meaty and wholly educational. Guest Hollow’s Government, Economics, and Personal Finance will be a one-year educational experience that your students are going to not only enjoy, but we hope will help them on a practical level as they prepare to leave the nest and start their own lives of being responsible for themselves.

Part of the course will be American Government…

The American Government portion of the course will cover many things, but it will in great measure be a basic civics course that explains how our government was designed to function, the responsibilities of each branch of government, how the court system functions, how elections are accomplished, and much more. There will be a robust study of the US Constitution and what it means, as well as a great examination of the Bill of Rights and other amendments – probably the singular most critical thing that ensures American liberty and justice. We will rely heavily on source documents and codified law rather than headlines and sources of opinion. This part of the course is meant to explain the system of government we have, and it is NOT intended to push any agenda, be it progressive or conservative. The curriculum will explain the structure that we live under and leave it up to others to determine whether that form of government should, as the Declaration of the United States stated, “…alter or abolish it”. We are editing an online textbook for this portion of the curriculum, and it will be free.

Economics and Personal Finance

The Economics portion of this curriculum is taught alongside of the government lessons, and the economics portion will itself include Personal Finance principles woven directly into it. This part of the curriculum will utilize spine books that we believe will be most efficacious in explaining both macro and microeconomics, as well as individual financial responsibility and practical application. This portion of the course will cover subjects including economies, markets, supply and demand, inflation, recession, collapse, depression cycles, consequences of government involvement, influences of trade and technology, and more. Woven in will be personal finance lessons including such things as budgeting, teen entrepreneurship, principles of debt, appropriate us of credit, savings strategies, and more. Please be aware that this is an extremely tentative and forward-looking statement.

We are certain that not everything above will necessarily be included, and we are equally certain that many things not noted above will be added! This curriculum is absolutely nascent in its level of development, and we have a very, very long way to go before release. Having said that, I hope that you will all be thrilled that we are creating Guest Hollow’s Government, Economics, and Personal Finance Curriculum. It will be a tour de force, and it will require a lot to make it just right… but since in many states it is a required course, we hope that you will be able to make use of it when it is finally released at a date far from certain in the future!

Happy homeschooling!

    1. LOL…I don’t know when it will be finished – probably NOT by this fall, but we may be taking on a very limited number of beta testers for the unfinished schedule. If you are interested, send us an email sometime late this summer (guesthollow@memorableplaces.com). 🙂

    1. We have gotten bitten in the backside so many times trying to set dates that we just do not even try anymore LOL 🙂 We will put this together just as fast as we can, but we’re going to do it well and it is going to be a really rich curriculum. I so wish I could give you certainty, but there is no way it will be ready this fall and we just do not have an estimated time when it will be done.

  6. Yay! So excited for this.

  9. Awesome! I will pencil it in for my 9th grader’s future high school plan! That gives you three years to get it out, ok?!

    1. I think we can meet that goal! LOL 🙂

  10. Awesome! I’m really looking forward to this. I think it’ll be perfect for my second kiddo, who will be a sophomore this year. He could use this for his junior or senior year to finish up those history credits. 🙂

      1. Thank you! 🥰

  13. Sounds really nice! Look forward to it 🙂

  14. What does a “spine book” mean?

    1. A “spine” book is considered a main book for the curriculum 🙂
