Beowulf’s Early American History Adventure and Activity Book
Beowulf’s Early American History Adventure and Activity Book was created for our Little Kids’ (grades K-3) Early American History Curriculum, but it can be used with any other history curriculum or read as a stand-alone book.
Have your youngest students learn about early American history with this fantastic and lavishly illustrated early reader style book full of true stories and simple activities.
Beowulf makes history understandable, memorable, and fun!
Beowulf’s Early American History Adventure and Activity Book is appropriate for Kindergarten to 3rd grade (or “young” 4th graders who are reluctant or struggling readers).
Inside the book are easy-to-understand history stories that can be read aloud by parents or silently by young readers (who are proficient but still need a simpler text).

When it came time to choose a spine book for our Little Kids’ Early American History Curriculum, we couldn’t find anything we liked, so we created our own book!
It was important to us to make history accessible and fun for the younger crowd, just as we did for 4th-8th graders when creating Beowulf’s Big Book of Early American History.
We wanted a book that is easy enough for young readers to read to themselves filled with beautiful and fun illustrations to catch their interest.
Young readers don’t have the stamina to read pages and pages of text, so each lesson was written with that in mind. For kids who aren’t reading yet, parents can read each lesson out loud.
Students will love that the stories are told by Beowulf the Fox Terrier. He is a customer favorite and is featured all throughout the book!
Each week has copywork (often just a single sentence or phrase), a cut-and-paste picture that represents the week’s main lesson, a book rating graphic (to rate the weekly books scheduled in Little Kids’ Early American History Curriculum), and fun activities. Some of the activities include easy drawing lessons, simple cut and paste crafts, mazes, dot-to-dots, simple writing (or telling) assignments, and coloring pages. There is even a set of chore cards to cut out after learning about how Clara Barton liked to help others.
The back of the book features additional cutouts such as the weekly cut-and-paste pictures, furniture and characters for a cabin playset, salmon life cycle cards for sequencing, diorama cutouts, and items for other activities.
Here’s an example of the diorama cutouts, which can also be used as stick puppets to tell the story of the Lewis and Clark expedition:
