Guest Hollow covers these important topics plus personal finance in a way that’s engaging and potentially life changing. We feel these topics are critical for students to understand and have put together a curriculum that breaks the mold. Learn about government, economics, and personal finance the Guest Hollow way!
In this curriculum, students will learn about:
- Economic principles and theories (the Austrian School perspective is promoted, but other theories are discussed)

- American Government and Civics
✦ How the U.S. government is structured and how it works
❖ The Constitution and American federalism
❖ Civil liberties and rights
❖ The politics of public opinion
❖ Voting and elections
❖ The media
❖ Political parties (and their economic approaches)
❖ Interest groups and lobbying
❖ Congress and the presidency
❖ The courts
✧ Multiple Supreme Court decisions are discussed with historical context for some of them
❖ Local governments and bureaucracy
❖ Domestic and foreign policy
- Personal finance topics
✦ Managing money, saving, budgeting, entrepreneurship, investing
✦ Basic concepts like writing checks, paying bills, comparison shopping, etc.
✦ Cooking on a budget – Students will cook a variety of budget-friendly recipes!
- Fallacies and critical thinking
- Students will also read a variety of dystopian literature. The dystopian novels chosen for this year clearly illustrate what life would be like without the current system of rights the U.S. Constitution affords and why it’s so important to be educated about and involved in civics.
We believe government, economics, and personal finance are critical for students to understand. These topics will help students make decisions as adults that have the potential to affect their lives, the trajectory of their future families, and even the United States.
This triad of topics impacts nearly every aspect of our lives! Students need to learn how to stay informed, get involved, and make good decisions. Our curriculum is designed to give them the tools they need to be proactive citizens, to understand their rights afforded by the U.S. Constitution, and how to work toward a secure financial future.
Learn how to make a difference!
In the 21st century, so many students and adults are ignorant about basic civics, how the U.S. government functions, how to get involved in making decisions for the country’s future, how the economy works, and how to properly handle their own finances. Our kids NEED to know this material to understand so many of the things going on in our country that directly affect us as U.S. citizens and how to make choices for financial stability and security.
Guest Hollow’s Government, Economics, and Personal Finance Curriculum brings these topics to life in a way that is understandable and even fun!
