Guest Hollow’s Whirlwind World History Curriculum is packed full of great books, videos, art projects, music, historical recipes, and more to make history come alive for students! This is not the typical boring high school world history curriculum. Guest Hollow’s Whirlwind World History Curriculum is designed to engage and inform in a way to help students retain and enjoy what they are learning.

Why did we name this curriculum Whirlwind World History? We did so because this is a whirlwind tour of history from the beginning of civilization to the modern age. Students are going to zip through over 5000 years of events, people, and cultures in the course of 36 weeks. Don’t worry! Even though this is a whirlwind tour, our history curriculum covers events in such a way as to make them memorable and to give a deeper understanding of world events.

We provide two separate timelines: one with B.C. and A.D. and the other with BCE and CE. Weekly timeline figures are provided in the workbook and also in a separate file (for those of you who’d like to print them onto sticker paper).

No. There are no tests with this curriculum.

Yes. You get a gigantic 375 page full-color workbook with the purchase of this curriculum (the page count doesn’t include the answer key which is provided as a separate file). The workbook includes study questions for the online textbook, maps, lots of illustrations and photos, notebooking pages, and timeline figures. The workbook also reviews the Greek and Latin root words featured in the online textbook.

F.A.Q. for our High School World History Curriculum

This curriculum can be used for grades 9 through 12, although it’s adaptable for middle schoolers. The beginning of the printable schedule contains a section with tips on how to use the schedule with a middle schooler including alternate book suggestions. Some video selections and/or assignments may not be appropriate for younger students. Use at your discretion. Middle school students will likely need more parental involvement.

We strongly suggest that you view every item linked or used in this curriculum to make sure it meets with your approval.

There are 36 weeks in this curriculum.

Youā€™ll have to check with your local educational authorities or in some other way determine if Guest Hollow meets requirements since states and colleges have different expectations.

When we were teaching our kids, we usually had what we thought of as a “core” curriculum (science, geography, or history). Because these programs were so literature-rich, we didn’t do a separate literature course. This enhanced our children’s retention and enjoyment of the material they were learning, since their reading assignments complimented their studies. Of course, our kids also did plenty of reading in their free time as well!

Guest Hollow’s Whirlwind World History Curriculum covers a lot of different types of information. We think the BEST curriculums are those that are multidisciplinary. We believe subjects donā€™t exist in a vacuum, so we like to tie different subjects together, when possible, to expand studentsā€™ understanding of specific topics or things they encounter in various scheduled books and/or videos.

Additional credits could possibly be earned for literature (language arts or English), art, or home economics (cooking). To facilitate the possibility of earning language arts credits, we’ve provided links to a variety of free resources for some of the scheduled and optional unscheduled books such as educator guides and other printables. These guides and printables provide additional ideas and assignments to expand your curriculum.

Don’t forget to research your local requirements and consult the local experts in your area!

You can keep your files forever if you save your initial download!

Once you’ve downloaded the schedule to your computer or device, you are licensed to use the downloaded copy forever. Make sure you download, save, and back up your items immediately after your purchase! You can click directly on the links in the schedule from a computer or other device and can use your materials with younger students years later.

We are Christians, but Guest Hollow’s Whirlwind Curriculum is not intended to be a “Christian resource”. However, there may be infrequent (or what we consider to be) minor references or links to resources that mention Christian ideas, values, or sectarian topics even in our secular/non-religious/neutral curriculums.

We’ve chosen to use the time designations of BCE and CE because of the diverse nature of our customers, and because it’s the current convention for most colleges and modern books. This is not a reflection of our personal preference, which is for BC and AD. We provide two separate timelines: one with B.C. and A.D. and the other with BCE and CE.

Christians and non-Christians should preview the scheduled books and all other resources such as videos, etc. to make sure they are compatible with your beliefs, philosophies, and values.

After purchasing a curriculum, you’ll see that the item you just bought shows that it is discounted 50% in our store. The reason you are seeing this is because we give you the opportunity to repurchase the schedule and your downloads at a substantial discount before they expire (2 years from date of purchase).

Please note: You do NOT need to repurchase your schedule in order to use the files you originally purchased and downloaded. You can use your downloaded schedule forever and can click on the links just as you can the online version of the schedule. You just won’t have access to any updates after your online access expires.

Why does access expire? Every year we go through all our curriculum schedules and update broken links and/or replace books that have gone out of print. This is a very time-intensive process that keeps our curricula up-to-date. Your repurchase helps fund this process and provides you with a schedule that has all the new additions or changes.

You need to repurchase your access BEFORE it expires in order to get the 50% discount due to the way our “membership” software works. If for some reason you miss the deadline, let us know why. We may give you a coupon code for the 50% off at our discretion.

I’m so grateful…

I am so grateful to have found Guest Hollow! My son (13 years) loves this curriculum. As a self-professed book nerd, I had a lot of fun going through the suggested books to choose which ones weā€™d useā€¦I may have even read a few of them for my own education. ? My son enjoys getting a say in what he does on a daily basis. Usually itā€™s the videos, but sometimes heā€™ll surprise me with the activities heā€™d like to do to further his learning. We LOVE Guest Hollow! Whirlwind World History was our 2nd Guest Hollow curriculum to use and we loved it as much as our first! My daughter prefers literature-based curriculums so this was a perfect fit but it is so much more with the videos embedded in the online textbook and the links to extra videos, music and recipes (Another favorite part of my daughter). We love having so many choices to make this curriculum work for my daughter and her interests and learning style! We have already purchased Guest Hollowā€™s American History 2 and Chemistry in the Kitchen for next year! Would highly recommend any Guest Hollow curriculum to anyone!

We are big Guest Hollow fans and have used many of the curriculums at various ages and stages. I have a gifted 8th grader who reads and tests at the late high school level in History so we decided to do Whirlwind History this year. It has really been great. The schedule is truly a buffet of options that you can choose from using a few, many or all.
My son loves the books so he never wants to skip any of those, because of this and the density of the information with this curriculum, we actually decided to split it up over two years. You certainly donā€™t HAVE to do that though as there is a schedule laid out for 5 days a week of a traditional school year. There are many different book styles as well, hard cover reference books, a rich online text book, graphic novels, traditional novels etc. I highly recommend GH and look forward to future releases of theirs.

    We just started using Whirlwind History with my twin 9th graders, and holy wow is it everything we wanted and more! My guys are already huge Ted Ed and Crash Course fans, and are voracious readers. They are watching the videos together on TV, then splitting off to do the online text and paper workbook separately at their desks. They chose to work together on the weekly projects, this week they are so loving the minecraft project! My mom is a graphic designer and artist, and she is prepping to do a lot of the weekly activities with them ? I feel like I have finally found a curriculum I dont have to work diligently to supplement!!!

    This is our first experience with Guest Hollow and now, as we’re finishing up Whirlwind World History, we’re already planning to add two more Guest Hollow courses next fall! My daughter (14yo, 9th grade) likes to insist that she doesn’t like school, but this course has been the exception. She loves the variety of ways to learn–online textbook, short videos, documentaries and movies, really engaging and interesting non-fiction books and literature, and a workbook that helps tie it all together and helps her review what she’s learned. I think our favorite part is the buffet style–there are SO MANY OPTIONS, so it’s easy to pick and choose what she is interested in or what I think is valuable based on what she has or hasn’t covered before. There’s no guilt or stress about saying “no” to one of the options she doesn’t really need! I’m grateful we found this company.
