F.A.Q. for our High School Anatomy Curriculum

You’ll have to check your local educational authorities or in some other way determine if Guest Hollow meets requirements since states and colleges have different expectations.

When we were teaching my kids, we usually had what we thought of as a “core” curriculum (science, geography, or history). Because these programs were so literature-rich, we didn’t do a separate literature course. This enhanced our children’s retention and enjoyment of the material they were learning, since their reading assignments complimented their studies. Of course our kids also did plenty of reading in their free time as well!

Guest Hollow’s High School Human Anatomy and Health Curriculum covers a lot of different types of information. We think the BEST curriculums are those that are multidisciplinary. We believe subjects don’t exist in a vacuum, so we like to tie different subjects together, when possible, to expand students’ understanding of specific topics or things they encounter in various scheduled books and/or videos.

Additional credits could possibly be earned for literature and health.

Don’t forget to research your local requirements and consult the local experts in your area! We are in NO way advising what credits you should assign. You are ultimately responsible for researching this topic and deciding what will work for you and your family based on your local requirements, future plans, college requirements, and other considerations.

This curriculum was designed for grades 9 through 12. Check out our other levels for multi-age teaching:

Guest Hollow’s Jr. Human Anatomy and Health Curriculum – This level is for grades 3-8.

Guest Hollow’s Little Kids Human Anatomy and Health Curriculum – This level is for preschool through grade 2.

We suggest you look over the online book lists for each curriculum linked to on each curriculum page to help you choose the best level based on your student’s reading ability and course load. For example: If you have an advanced 8th grader, you may want to sub in a few books from the high school level to add a bit of a challenge. If you have a gifted 2nd grader, you may want to add in a few books from the Jr. Anatomy program to Little Otter’s Anatomy.

We strongly suggest that you view every item linked or used in this curriculum to make sure it meets with your approval.

I wanna say that the last section of this course that focuses in on the social science aspect of protecting the body and mind that our daughter has been learning about all year was absolutely the most wonderful part of the whole schedule. I previewed everything last year and had also assigned it to our son as a separate unit in his social science course adding in for them both the book “Abuse of Men By Women-It Happens and It Hurts” by Ann Silvers MA. This has been absolutely empowering to both of my teens to not only see and work on their own red flags, but to pick up on red flags in others. It wasn’t something that made them jaded towards people, but opened their eyes to the fact that everyone has baggage it’s all about recognizing it, acknowledging what it is, and seeing if it is baggage you are willing to travel with. Gift of Fear was our favorite, 10 Stupid things was one though that each of the kids wanted to keep for their own bookshelves for personal reference. They both said it has helped them.

How do you turn it off?!!!!

My daughter is TOTALLY into the book “Gulp!” She hasn’t stopped talking for about an hour about what she’s read the last few days! It has her googling stuff all over the place so she could learn more. Loving this!

This is our last week with Anatomy & Physiology and my son loved it. We used Biology last year so were familiar with the format…we love all the living books, the variety (books, videos, activities), the schedule. It was perfect for my humanities-minded son. On to Chemistry in the Kitchen next year!

My 10th grader is loving the curriculum so far. I was worried about all the reading at first, because my daughter is not an avid reader, but she has loved all the novels so far. It’s good to see her enjoying reading, and learning so much! I highly recommend this course for any kids interested in going into the medical field in college.

Last year was our first year using Guest Hollow…it was great! Wish I had started using GH sooner! My teens retained more this past year in science than in any past years and everything was so life applicable. They enjoyed all of the reading which really made science come to life. The hard part was picking which things to skip! We also did the course along with friends and that made it even better.
