Description

This printable 9 page packet is a self-contained art lesson on how to draw using the grid method, plus a bonus interview with an illustrator!

Although this printable packet contains an art lesson, it’s also a terrific fall printable, as the main feature is learning how to draw squirrel.

Students are shown how a photograph or picture can be used as an art reference. They are also introduced to how digital drawings & paintings can be created while reading an interview with an illustrator.

They are then taught how to use the grid method to reproduce a picture with step-by-step instructions that are clear and easy to follow. The lesson also features a “hand-holding” practice page that allows students to:

+ Trace a picture on a grid
+ Draw the same picture with a grid that is already made
+ Draw a grid using a ruler

Students draw a squirrel, which should appeal to both boys and girls.

The use of negative space to help recreate a drawing is introduced in a friendly way (without the terminology).

Additional practice grids are provided for extra drawings of other objects. The packet also comes with an optional page 3 that will save on color printer ink.

Using the grid method to draw is a classic art technique that produces great results! Tie in some art into your fall and autumn studies, or teach the grid drawing method to just about any age student!
