I cannot even tell you how much Biology curricula I looked at before I finally (thankfully) found this one! It saved our year! It went along with my daughter’s learning style so much better than a boring textbook-only approach, heavy on the math with expensive, impossible labs. This one made biology do-able. We enjoyed (as a family) so many videos. The online lab options were life-savers some weeks. The worst part is having to leave stuff out because there is no way you can do it all! So much to choose from!
Brenda E.

We’ve researched labs and activities from a variety of sources for a variety of budgets, created a comprehensive year-long daily/weekly schedule, put together workbook pages to help students better learn and retain the textbook material, researched and added in some terrific links, videos and other resources and added a list of supplementary reading to expand on the textbook concepts via “living books“.

We’ve hand-picked books your students will love.

Our homeschool biology curriculum features both non-fiction and optional fiction books that will ignite your student’s love for science.

Videos add a visual component.

We scour YouTube to find the best educational videos to make science something to actually see & hear and not just read about.

We work hard to engage ALL types of learners.

You’ll find a buffet of videos, projects, activities, and assignments you can pick-and-choose from to help your students retain what they are learning!

Students and parents love Guest Hollow!

Our customers have shared over and over how Guest Hollow curricula has changed their homeschool and sparked a love for learning!

There aren’t many options for a solid *Christian high school biology curriculum that is low cost and has lots of options, extras and engaging material to help expand concepts. That’s why we created Guest Hollow’s High School Biology by editing the well-known and esteemed CK-12 Biology Curriculum (thanks to a Creative Commons license CC BY-NC 4.0)!

We love science and want to give homeschooling families more options that are a bit different from the “norm”. Students and families love our curriculums! Try us, and you’ll see why!

*Secular families can use our schedule with the original CK-12 biology bookClick here for more info.

We’ve taken the rigorous CK-12 biology textbook and edited it (thanks to a Creative Commons license) to fit a Christian creationist perspective. Edits are as follows:

  • References to evolution were taken out.
  • New videos were added. Students can watch them right from the online text!
  • Christian material was added.
  • Definitions were placed with vocabulary words in the beginning of each chapter.
  • New pictures and illustrations were added.
  • Custom illustrations were created to better communicate concepts.
  • Additional concepts and material were added.
  • Some humor was added and/or sections were rewritten to be more clear and understandable.
  • Latin and Greek root word “alerts” were created and inserted in the text – a fun way to learn vocabulary using science!
  • The human anatomy portion was taken out. We don’t believe several weeks study is adequate for a rich understanding of the human body. Check out our high school anatomy curriculum that fills this need.
  • We edited the workbook to make it more visual with added humor and edits that reflect the changes in the Guest Hollow version of the textbook.

We also added a schedule that ties in a variety of lab options, activities, videos, workbook assignments, games, free printables, additional books, and more to make a rich learning experience that goes beyond the text!

F.A.Q. for our Biology Curriculum

You’ll have to check with your local educational authorities or in some other way determine if Guest Hollow meets requirements since states and colleges have different expectations.

When we were teaching our kids, we usually had what we thought of as a “core” curriculum (science, geography, or history). Because these programs were so literature-rich, we didn’t do a separate literature course. This enhanced our children’s retention and enjoyment of the material they were learning, since their reading assignments complimented their studies. Of course our kids also did plenty of reading in their free time as well!

Guest Hollow’s Biology Curriculum covers a lot of different types of information. We think the BEST curriculums are those that are multidisciplinary. We believe subjects don’t exist in a vacuum, so we like to tie different subjects together, when possible, to expand students’ understanding of specific topics or things they encounter in various scheduled books and/or videos.

Additional credits could possibly be earned for literature.

Don’t forget to research your local requirements and consult the local experts in your area! We are in NO way advising what credits you should assign. You are ultimately responsible for researching this topic and deciding what will work for you and your family based on your local requirements, future plans, college requirements, and other considerations.

This curriculum was designed for grades 9 through 12. It’s not recommended for younger students unless they are advanced and highly motivated.

There are 32 weeks in this curriculum.

We recommend you use the online textbook, due to the embedded videos and links, as well as the formatting. We no longer offer a PDF version of the book. If you need a text version, just print out each section using your browser and home printer as you go through the online book. The other option is to visit the files section in our Facebook Biology group. A customer uploaded a Microsoft Word version of the online textbook that you can print. We are not responsible for any errors or the content of that document.

You can keep your files forever, if you save your initial download!

Once you’ve downloaded the schedule to your computer or device, you are licensed to use the downloaded copy forever. Make sure you download, save, and back up your items immediately after your purchase! You can click directly on the links in the schedule from a computer or other device and can use your materials with younger students years later.

2 Years to Access Additional Downloads*

Additional downloads (after your initial purchase) and access to the free online version of the schedule are provided as a courtesy and are not guaranteed due to various potential technical and business (and life!) circumstances. It is our intention to continue to provide access for a period of 2 years from the date of purchase. After the 2-year period, you will have the opportunity to repurchase your printable schedule at a substantial discount.

Please note, if you have problems, we have a liberal policy of providing extra, free access for unusual circumstances (at our discretion). Just contact us: guesthollow@memorableplaces.com.

*Access to the online version of the curriculum schedules and additional downloads is provided as a courtesy and is not guaranteed due to potential various circumstances on our end and yours including but not limited to various computer, device, and internet configurations.

Guest Hollow’s High School Biology uses a *spine book that is Christian.
A spine book is a book that is used as a backbone of a study that students will use often.

Secular families can also use our schedule with the original CK-12 biology book. Click here for more info.

Some of the extra books and resources we schedule in are non-religious in nature.

If we schedule in a Christian book, we try to give you notice of such in the books and resources page.

Christians and non-Christians should preview the scheduled books and all other resources such as videos, etc. to make sure they are compatible with your beliefs, philosophies, and values.

After purchasing a curriculum, you’ll see that the item you just bought shows that it is discounted 50% in our store. The reason you are seeing this is because we give you the opportunity to repurchase the schedule and your downloads at a substantial discount before they expire (2 years from date of purchase).

Please note: You do NOT need to repurchase your schedule in order to use the files you originally purchased and downloaded. You can use your downloaded schedule forever and can click on the links just as you can the online version of the schedule. You just won’t have access to any updates after your online access expires.

Why does access expire? Every year we go through all our curriculum schedules and update broken links and/or replace books that have gone out of print. This is a very time-intensive process that keeps our curricula up-to-date. Your repurchase helps fund this process and provides you with a schedule that has all the new additions or changes.

You need to repurchase your access BEFORE it expires in order to get the 50% discount due to the way our “membership” software works. If for some reason you miss the deadline, let us know why. We may give you a coupon code for the 50% off at our discretion. ????

*It is our intention to provide access for a period of 2 years, however, access to the online version of the curriculum schedules and additional downloads is provided as a courtesy and is not guaranteed due to potential various circumstances on our end and yours including but not limited to various computer, device, and internet configurations.

This question is impossible for us to answer.

We do NOT in any way make any representations that any of our material will or will not work for establishing credit, being enough to conform to any educational requirements, or pass muster with any federal, state, local, or college requirements.

We require instructors and parents to determine for themselves, from federal, state, and local authorities – as well as from any colleges that may be considered in the future what is specifically required in their family’s / student’s circumstances in order to meet requirements for credit, graduation, admission, and all other potential requirements and needs.

The morass of individual requirements in between states, municipalities, and colleges is such a tangled mess that we simply cannot help to determine the suitability of any materials or curricula in any meaningful way.    We strongly recommend that instructors determine the requirements and then compare those requirements to what is offered in our materials to see if the materials will pass muster with whatever requirements are extant in any given situation.  We also strongly recommend that when there are potential learning disabilities or challenges of ANY kind that instructors/parents seek professional guidance and qualified assistance with selecting materials to use and in their presentation.

In other words, the determination on whether a student has “accomplished enough for a credit” will NEVER be ours, it must be that of the authorities that you must answer to as well as the requirements of any continuing or higher-level education and institutions / tests that you will need to accomplish – and there is no way for us to either know or determine that. We suggest that you seek the assistance of qualified individuals that can determine whether or not our materials will meet all standards you need to meet prior to using our materials.

I was so anxious and felt so unequipped to teach my son his high school level courses starting this year. I wasn’t sure what curriculum I was going to use for science until a friend talk to me about this curriculum. I was so pleased and blessed to be a recipient of such a wealth of resources in this Biology curriculum. Couple of moms and I started our own co-op using this curriculum and are having such a blast seeing the kids enjoy it so much and learn in such an interactive way. I love all the resources that were put together for this curriculum. We love the videos the additional books and the fact that the links are free. The outstanding quality of this curriculum is beyond what I expected. I always dreaded having to create weekly schedules and planning a full curriculum. This course is set up week by week with all the instructions very clear and easy to follow even if my kids wanted to donut on their own.
Love it love it love it!!! I’m very greatful that someone took the time to bless others so abundantly! May God continue to bless your efforts.. Thank you for this gift!

Here are two reviews of Guest Hollow Biology, the first one written by me, the second one by my teen daughter.

Parent Review: We used Apologia science books for a number of years and they worked well for us. When we got to Biology though my daughter began to struggle. The reading was difficult, the material hard to understand. She loves science, but I could see the joy of learning Biology fading fast. Enter Guest Hollow. It was recommended to me by other Homeschool Moms, and I couldn’t be happier with it.

First of all, the textbook is free, which made it easy to give it a try. The lessons are laid out in an easy-to-read format. Each lesson contains videos to help cement the concepts, which is especially good for students who are visual learners.

The curriculum comes complete with a weekly schedule that simplifies things for the Homeschool Parent. It really is Open and Go. There are optional labs within Guest Hollow Biology, plus supplementary reading suggestions, and printable worksheets (except for the last three chapters but I’m hopeful those will be added).

My daughter has done very well using this Biology curriculum. It’s mostly independent, and she has been able to understand and retain the material. I wasn’t sure about her using an online curriculum since we have never used one before, but she really likes that aspect of it.

Student Review: Guest Hollow is a very easy to use, very clean formatted biology. I really enjoy using it. I like how they explain things in an easy to understand form, not too over my head. I like the videos that are inserted throughout the text. It helps me grasp some concepts that I may not be getting just by reading the text. Some of them are interactive, which is neat cause it is almost like a lab.

So, to sum it all up: We love Guest Hollow Biology! I anticipate that we will follow this year up with Guest Hollow’s Chemistry. Thank you for a great curriculum!

  4. Callie Conley

I hated biology before I found Guest Hollow! I am a visual learner, and Guest Hollow Biology gives tons of videos to watch, reading interesting books, and hands-on activities like dissecting and experiments. Now I love biology thanks to Guest Hollow!

  5. Avery

As a student, this was a very fun biology textbook. I liked how you incorporated videos into the book. I fell like I could talk to someone about biology more after doing this course. Thanks for everything!

  6. Leah Sours

I liked all of the videos however, I felt like there were too many workbook pages.

  7. Heather Powell

Last summer, I researched biology curriculum that would prepare my 9th grader for the biology SAT subject test the following Spring. In 5th grade, she enjoyed Big Otter’s anatomy course, so we looked at what Guesthollow had to offer for high school. The free CK-12 online textbook that Guesthollow uses lines up well with what is included on the subject test. The videos, labs, extra books, and worksheets included in this curriculum helped her retain what she read in the textbook. In addition to Guesthollow’s biology curriculum, she reviewed what she had learned with Barron’s SAT subject test preparation guide. This book filled in what she needed to know about evolution and human anatomy for the test. Last May, my daughter took the SAT biology E subject test and scored a 740. I am grateful to Guesthollow for all the work put into this free high school biology curriculum, and we plan on using their Chemistry curriculum for 10th grade.

  8. Kristina

As a student, I found this Biology curriculum very interesting and fun. I was behind a few years, but this definitely helped me catch up. The videos were really interactive, plus I loved how the Christian’s perspective were added to the topics. However, I think the workbook assignments were too much work! Even so, I enjoyed this Biology curriculum. Thank you!

  9. Joanna

We have completed Guest Hollow’s Biology, Chemistry and Physics curricula. Biology is by far my daughter’s favorite! She enjoyed the “real life” books that were much more engaging than a boring textbook. She commented that each lab was “fun in it’s own way,” and “they helped solidify the content for me.” A great way to earn high school credit without tears!!!

  10. Lilyan

My daughter will be in 12th grade this fall. We started using Guest Hollow Biology when she was in 9th grade. Before that we had used Apologia textbooks for science which we thought were nice. When we switched to Guest Hollow we both thoroughly enjoyed her science studies and we learned and shared so much. The choice of books, videos, and games is an educational feast that was so pleasing to our minds! Thank you for prompting us to savor our science studies! My daughter is considering an occupational therapy career because of her enjoyment of science.

  11. Nicole Echols

So excited that we found Guest Hollow Biology this year! It’s been a fantastic fit for our family. The curriculum is engaging with just the right amount of videos, colorful illustrations and information. It keeps the attention of all three of my high schoolers. Thank you for making Biology come to life!

    • JENNIFER GUEST

Thank you so much for the feedback! I’m so glad your highschoolers enjoyed the program! Thank you so much for posting. 🙂 It’s a big encouragement to me!

  12. Kate Polakowski

I found this Biology curriculum to be very engaging and useful. The sections on evolution made me research the evidence in greater depth and reminded me not to take everything I read for absolute fact. The different components such as videos and online activities helped my brain to focus and absorb information much better, and I enjoyed the writer’s funny quips throughout the text. This Biology course made me look forward to studying science! My only wish was that the curriculum had presented more fully the differing opinions in the argument about evolution and a two billion year old earth. Other than that I greatly enjoyed the course. Thanks for a lovely semester of biology!

    • JENNIFER GUEST

Thank you so much for your review! I appreciate the feedback! <3 I’m so happy you enjoyed the course.

  13. A Thankful High Schooler

I loved this curriculum for it’s easy to understand nature, as well as your Christian worldview.

Thank you for your amazing work, my classmates and I loved it!

    • Jennifer Guest

Thank you so much for leaving a comment! I’m so glad you and your classmates loved it. 🙂

  14. Hope Smith

I loved this biology curriculum. My sister and I did it together and loved it. Thank you for all the work you put into it.

    • Jennifer Guest

Thank you so much for your comment! 😀 You totally made my day.

  15. Mona Koerner

We thoroughly enjoyed Guest Hollow Biology. The ability to choose activities was great. The literature suggestions were wonderful and my daughter found many things to read on her own as a result. I appreciated the online text with embedded videos we were able to read/watch as we went along much more interesting than a straight text book. We also enjoyed many, many good full length (hour long videos) we usually watched these for our lunch hour. Thank you GuestHollow! Biology became my daughter’s favorite subject this year.

  16. Kendra C. (verified owner)

I just wanted to leave a review for your Biology curriculum, which we just finished in June of this year. I was in 10th grade. I really enjoyed it. The lessons were easy to read, and they made sense! I have dyslexia, and it can be difficult to understand stuff, but your lessons made sense to me. They were funny at times, and I enjoyed the videos. (The ones I watched. 🙂 And I liked that fact that if I found a mistake, I could let you know, and you would fix it, and thank me. That was really nice. The work sheets were also super helpful, and made sense. The optional living books were also a super fun bonus! “For All the Tea in China” was so cool that I gave a report on it in our yearly end-of-school presentations. All in all, I really enjoyed your biology course, and I am super glad my mother made me do it. (And found it!)
    Sincerely(!) Kendra

We used this curriculum with my freshmen daughter. Overall I thought the curriculum thorough and informative. Most of the accompanying books were useful, interesting and educational. My daughter learned biology in an interactive and satisfactory way.

Two critiques: I thought the books on evolution were good and relevant to the curriculum. However, the Answers books , while great for general apologetics, are not specifically biology. It felt irrelevant and therefore excessive in an already overflowing curriculum. For reference, we are a Christian family.

Second, there were way too many workbook pages for each section and I found it very difficult figure out which pages I could have her skip without losing content. I also found many of the workbook page questions written in tricky ways to make it difficult to understand. I think these need editing.

    • Jennifer Guest

Thank you so much for your feedback! We didn’t write the workbook questions, CK-12 did – but I think that’s something we may consider changing in the future (to be like our other curriculum workbooks). I also appreciate your feedback about the Answers books. We’ll consider finding some substitutes! Thanks so much for leaving your review and for the excellent critiques! <3

  18. Bex Buzzie

Jen And Charles are probably the most genuine people I have encountered. They put their heart into their products because they have you in mind. They understand the struggles and pitfalls of traditional curricula like in the upper level sciences with a no math approach! It has been such a blessing to know they exist to support the homeschool community!

    • Jennifer Guest

Awwww, thank you so much for the kind words! <3 We both enjoyed our FIRST podcast with you!!
To anyone reading these comments, go check out Bex’s site: https://thehomeschoolpodcast.org/ Our interview will go live in the middle of June 2022. 😀 Bex is such a sweet woman who really loves the homeschooling community and is working hard to support it! We loved working with her (once I got over my introvert panic attack -exaggerated but barely, lololol).

  19. Leah S (verified owner)

My 14 year old daughter loves this curriculum so much that she asked to continue Guest Hollow for her a science the duration of High School. The schedule is easy to follow and she loves the books that go along with it.

This Biology curriculum was not only fun but interesting and cool. This was easier to use that other curriculums I’ve used before. I’m thinking of using the guest hollow chemistry curriculum next year.

It was fun! It was informative and interesting so I recommend it. One thing I would add is some lessons were so long it was hard to fit in without feeling overwhelmed. I also would appreciate if most of the videos weren’t for purchase only.
    Thank you! 🙂

We are so grateful for the Guest Hollow Biology this year. We are in our first year of homeschooling, and the schedule, list of books, etc. made it so easy for both of us (mom and son) to go through the curriculum. We BOTH learned a lot this year and enjoyed it so much! We can’t recommend it enough.

I just finished Guest Hollow’s High School Biology, and I LOVED it! At the start of the school year, I started a biology from a different curriculum and I thought I’d NEVER like biology. After switching to Guest Hollow, I realized how fascinating and fun biology really is.
I love how Guest Hollow provides a wide variety of resources such as books, videos, and hands-on projects to cater to every learning style. Highly recommend!!

Once again, GH delivers an absolute all star curriculum. My daughter actually looks forward to and, dare I say, loves science now. We love how well put together the schedule is. It allows her to do work independently with a few clicks. The use of books, videos, and optional experiments keeps it fresh and exciting!

Everything we have used from Guest Hollow has been amazing! I love all of the variety! Jenn and Charles Guest are just the most helpful couple when it comes to the curriculum. Always available when you have a question. You can tell so much time and love went into their work! It shows by how well it’s done! Love Guest Hollow and you will too!!!

I tell everyone about this science curriculum! It’s hands-on, multi-sensory, literature based, and it is such a good fit for my teenage boys!

I forgot to mention that the customer service is amazing! They get back with you right away, are very active on social media answering all questions, and even gave me a refund when I realized I missed out on a 15% off sale (they refunded the sale amount). I’m so impressed.

I never liked doing science because I found it boring and there is a lot of curriculum that endorses evolution and leaves God out of the picture, which makes me upset and wish i could just skip doing science, but doing Guest Hollow made science fun and entertaining for me. I love how they show thet God is the creator and evolution has no part in it ( I enjoyed reading the New Answers books for that ), they had short fun videos that helped me remember the stuff I learned so I could answer the questions, and it had some good humor. I’m also thankful that it was out for free which was really nice and helpful. I think the people who worked on this biology curriculum did a wonderful job and I thank God that my mom found Guest Hollow and definitely recommend getting it.

Thank you so much for your review! We would love to know which books have the wrong chapter names. 🙂 Please send an email to guesthollow@memorableplaces.com and we’ll make any corrections that need to be made!

Please make certain that you have purchased the specific book linked in the booklists. If you are getting a different edition of the book there is a chance the page or chapter numbers will not line up. So please be certain that the ISBN you have purchased matches exactly the ISBN and the edition we have linked in the books and materials lists! 🙂 🙂

My son loves this curriculum! 🙂 Any plans on making chemistry and physics courses using the CK12 online texts?
